España, Día 13: Año Nuevo

Jaime got a head start on 2022. Pablo tried stuffing without chewing. I ate my grapes after filming. We all entered the new year with our hearts full.

Nina wanted a silly one.

Proof that Jaime ate all this grapes

After this, Maria Rosa, Mari, Gerardo, Emi and Nina played Desesperado, and I went to bed!
One of my favorite things about visiting la casa de los abuelos is the soundtrack DJ Jaime keeps going. I took the following photos of a few of the CDs that were in rotation this year so I could look for them later, not so that I could put photos of them on the blog, so I didn't make an effort to frame them so that the shadow of my camera was not evident.

Emi joined Mari and me on a morning walk that took us through the Plaza Mayor and el Mercado de San Miguel (that's where Mari's checking out the octopus and wishing she was eating some). More pictures of that walk are posted at emiliosdad.blogspot.com.

For lunch, we walked to Gimena and Teo's 4th floor apartment, where we had lunch on the rooftop terrace.
Those who took a taxi or a bus and got there before we did waved to us from the rooftop terrraza, as you can see in the photos above and below. That's abuela in the striped top.

We ate on the terraza on the roof of their 4th floor apartment. The weather was beautiful and the food was colorful and healthy.

We had some discussion about the identity of the cupulas in the skyline.

This was my first visit to Teo and Gimena's apartment. It is full of art.
Teo and Gimena created this side by side self-portrait.
Gimena and the girls created this one.

After lunch, we spent the rest of the afternoon playing la patanca (similar to bocce) in a nearby plaza. Teo was the organizer.

First you throw the green ball. Then you throw the iron balls and try to get them as close as possible to the green one.

Ines's throw was on the mark.
Jaime shows us how it's done.
After the games, team gelato walked to Patagonia, an Argentine gelateria (ice cream shop) in the city center near Tirso de Molina plaza.
My efforts to take a team photo were made more difficult by traffic that scattered my models.
We persisted.
On the Toledo bridge.
Some in our party were as complimentary of the service as they were of the ice cream.

Starting the New Year right
After we returned to la casa de los abuelos, carioca broke out again.

la casa de los abuelos is always a beautiful and hospitable place. It looks like Gimena and Teo are following that tradition.
