Nina in the Net

In Tuesday night's U-9 game (her fifth game in four days!), Nina volunteered to play goalie. I told her to make sure she gets down on the ball. She followed that instruction fearlessly and pitched a scoreless first half.

The final score in this game was 1-1, but the only score they got by Nina was a controversial one. Following an infraction in the box, Coach Wes was expecting an indirect kick and did not ask Nina's teammates to set up a wall to protect the goal. When the free kick went in, our coach told the ref he thought an indirect kick was required, but the ref explained to him that a direct free kick was allowed under the circumstances.
