On the big day, Maria took a day off work and ferried Nina to the dentist's office at 7 a.m. in the morning (so we could get it over with early). After a long stretch in the waiting room, they attempted to administer the general anesthesia to her by asking her if she liked Kool-Aid (she's never had it), and then squirting it quickly down her throat before she had time to react. This didn't work. Nina spit out what she could. But because nobody knew how much anesthesia she had spit out and were reluctant to give her another dose without that knowledge, they told us to reschedule. First opening? Seven weeks later: May 31st. (Mari and Nina got home early, but neither of them could go to school that day because Nina had imbibed an undetermined amount of anesthesia.)
So May 31st rolls around. Nina's appointment is at eight a.m. (why get there so early if you're going to have to wait anyway?), and everything goes smoothly this time. In fact, it goes so smoothly that Mari wonders if we needed to shell out the big bucks for the expensive, Kool-Aid in the first place . . .
At least she did not suffer, and infection has been avoided.
