Tex-Mex, Cabela's, and Dirt Track Racing

After Emilio's game in Choctaw, we treated ourselves to Tex-Mex at Ted's Cafe Escondido in OK City, and then made our first-ever visit to Cabela's to check out tents and sleeping bags that we hope to take with us on our summer vacation. We bought a new ice chest with wheels and a drain, played checkers by the fireplace, and imagined the bears that might be waiting for us in South Dakota tree tops.

On our way back home, we had a bite to eat at a little Irish place, and then, since it was the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's last day on this Earth, it may not surprise anyone to learn that we commemorated the occasion by making a spontaneous, first-ever visit to the Oklahoma Sports Park, which is just 10 miles northwest of Ada. Once inside, we watched Kristi Byrd drive the 99 car to victory in the Sport Mod Feature: 20 laps on a quarter-mile dirt track.

The kids were pretty excited about this late night adventure. When we got back in the van afterwards, and I asked my passengers how they liked it, I was met a long silence before Nina offered, "I hated it." The consensus was that the experience would have been more enjoyable if we'd had noise-blockers of some kind.

Game Five: Score Two for Nina!

That ball, kicked by Nina's left foot, is headed to the net. That's her first goal of the season!

Pablo has become a master of the quick throw-in.

Score one? Score again! That's Nina's second goal of the day.

The Red Rhinos are now 5-0, and we've got three games to go.

Let's Dance!

Pablo commits to his kicks and throws, as this collection of action shots demonstrates.
