Grand Tour, Day 35: Malaga Sunday

Mari and I are up at 9, the kids follow at 9:30, and we have breakfast en la habitation de los abuelos.

After breakfast, we head for the apartment where Picasso was born on October 25, 1881. Along the way, we see children sitting behind the bars on the window of their apartment watching the activities in the plaza.

Picasso was the first child of his 26-year-old mother and his 43-year-old father, a professor of drawing.  He was born at home on the second floor of the building on the corner behind the bench where his statue rests. He lived in Malaga until he was 10-years-old, when his family moved to La Coruña.

After visiting Picasso's birthhouse, we looked at the display stands in the Plaza de Merced. Nina bought a ring with a typewriter letter "A" on it for her friend Anneliese.

When we leave the plaza, Jaime and Maria Rosa take us to one of their favorite restaurants in Malaga, an Argentine pizzeria called "Malapizza," where we order pizza (naturally), pasta, and bruschetta.


The kids enjoyed watching track and field events on the pizzeria's tv.

After lunch, we head back to the apartment, where Maria Rosa, Emilio, Maria Jose, Emilio, and Nina play cariaoca.

At 6:45, we get back to the beach (Jaime sits this one out), and Pablo begins digging a hole.

Someboy's child invites himself to the party.

He is not a rule-follower.

Pablo is a gentle teacher.

That's a third-person, 3-generation selfie.

At 8:30, we walk back to the hotel. After the kids rinse off, we have dinner in the abuelos' room. Emilio, Maria Jose and Maria Rosa play Desesperado. We don't turn the lights out until after midnight.
