Opening Night!

Nina takes a bow.

Grandmother, Granddaddy, and Aunt Carolyn joined me and Emilio and Pablo on the first row for Nina's debut performance in "The Girl from Anatevka." It went well!

Coming Soon: A Girl from Anatevka

This Thursday: Nina debuts in "A Girl from Anatevka." After learning about matchmakers from the older girls in her small hometown, an eight-year-old Jewish girl from Anatevka joins friends chasing some of the still available village boys. But the fun comes to an end when the czar forces all the village's Jews to sell their property and move away.

Eleanor and Meriweather

It's iBiography day at Hayes Elementary.

Eleanor was born in New York City in 1884. Her parents died when she was young, and she was raised by an unkind grandmother. She went to school in England in 1899, where she learned confidence in herself and to care about others. In 1905, she married Franklin Roosevelt. Her uncle, President Teddy Roosevelt, performed the ceremony. She had six children.
(The six individuals in the photo below are not her children.)

In 1774, Merriweather Lewis was born. His father died in the American Revolution in 1779 when Lewis was only five years old. In 1794, at the age of twenty, he joined the military and became an army captain. It was there that he met William Clark. Soon after, Lewis became a private secretary for President Jefferson.

Main Street January

Nina went to an overnight Girl Scout event in at the Lazer Zone. Mari dropped her off at nine p.m. Friday night and picked her up at 5:30 a.m.on Saturday. After a quick breakfast, she went to sleep and didn't get up again until 2:30 p.m.!

This was the first walk I'd been on since finals week in December, when my back started hurting me.

The Ring Has Been Lorded

Tonight, Pablo and I finished reading The Lord of the Rings. It was quite a challenge and a long time coming--we finished The Hobbit a year and nine months ago. But the last book was the easiest and the fastest. This is my proudest achievement of the young year.
