Six Plus Six (plus Eight)

Birthday celebrations began on the 10th, when we woke up to find Norah and the Benton-Nielsen newlyweds, who were on the way back from last weekend's Minnesota wedding (I also returned after bedtime from a conference in New Orleans). The celebrations continued with los abuelos, who sent activity books and clothes, and extraordinary, handmade, keepsake photo-collage birthday cards featuring each of the kids with their siblings, parents, Spanish cousins, tias, tios, and abuelos (see below). We opened these gifts live via a Skype connection with Madrid. By the end of birthday celebrations on the 11th, Pablo had received a Hot Wheels track set, a Vincent Van Gogh "The Starry Night" master art kit and tool box, and a 1st grade reading activity book, ; and Nina had received a 85-piece art kit and case, a Gustav Klimt "Tree of Life" master art kit and tool box, a 1st grade spelling activity book, a deluxe jumping rope, a rhythmic gymnastics twirling banner, an orange t-shirt from New Orleans, and an Indonesian flag (to go with her Mexican and Chinese flags).
